Recall
A study app that turns your own notes, PDFs and photos into practice questions, then schedules reviews until you actually remember the material.

The brief
Making flashcards by hand is slow, and many study apps call a card mastered far too early. Recall had to write good questions from a student's own material and only call something mastered when the answer history proves it.
The approach
- Organised everything around study sets: topics, materials and cards, with every study mode working on the same chosen selection.
- Material in, questions out: PDFs, photos and text go through a small Claude-backed API that writes practice questions, with a consent screen before anything is sent.
- A mastery engine with five learning states: a card only counts as mastered after repeated correct answers across several sessions and days.
- Eight study modes, from smart review and flashcards to match, fill the blank and a timed exam.
- Designed in dark and light mode and documented screen by screen in a UI reference.
The outcome
On TestFlight as "Recall: Learn. Forget. Recall." (build 4). The screens here show the next build's redesigned Today and Library.
The screens
-

1Today: a plan built from real numbers, due cards, weak spots and new cards. -

2Smart review: one question at a time, with instant feedback and an explanation. -

3Progress: mastery across five learning states and what comes due. -

4Add material: a PDF or text file becomes practice questions. -

5Study set: topics and filters that every study mode shares. -

6Flashcards: flip, then mark it known or still learning. -

7Match the pairs, against the clock. -

8The same Today screen in light mode.
